The final countdown to UEFA Euro 2024 has officially begun as we approach a string of highly anticipated international friendlies. Some of the nations that are playing this week are heading for the big tournament and others aren’t, but either way, it’s important for all of them to try and build some momentum. Today, we’ll be taking a look at the impending clash between Denmark and Sweden.
Denmark Form GuideDenmark, to put it as bluntly as we possibly can, left a lot to be desired in Qatar. They were unable to really get going in the World Cup which is a shame, given that they’re known for their ability to dig deep and produce special results on the big stage. They’ve gone back to the drawing board in time for the European Championships and we’re intrigued to see what they can produce.
Denmark got the job done in qualifying and that’s the biggest compliment we can give them. They did drop points in three of their 10 games, and they only finished top via head to head record, but they still did it. Who knows, maybe that 1st place finish is the confident boost they need as they prepare to head to Germany.
Sweden Form GuideWhile they may have only qualified for one of the last four World Cup finals, Sweden are usually pretty consistent in Europe, having qualified for the last six editions of the European Championship - until now. They always did struggle to do a whole lot with that when they got there, but given some of the stars they have within their ranks, they’ll still be pretty disappointed.
Sweden’s qualifying campaign, by their standards, was actually quite poor. They only picked up 10 points from their eight qualifying games and they ultimately finished nine points behind Austria who finished in 2nd. As they gear up for the World Cup qualifiers, they need to look at things differently.
Match PredictionIn a game like this, the whole point is to do everything in your power to make an impact - but at the same time, there are far more important matches that lie ahead. Therefore, while we do think there will be some big moments here and there, our official prediction is under 2.5 goals scored.
